Arboriculture Assessments

We have over 10 years’ experience in undertaking ecology assessments and tree surveys for the purposes of site development, building restoration, infrastructure projects, habitat restoration and planning applications.

McGinn Ecology and Arb Service provide arboriculture surveys, undertaken in accordance with BS 5837:2012 Trees in Relation to Design Demolition and Construction – Recommendations. Trees are surveyed from the ground using the VTA (Visual Tree Assessment) method to evaluate the structural integrity of the tree using binoculars and measuring the tree using a measuring tape, clinometer and GPS for location. The tree survey, sometimes known as an arb survey or arboriculture survey is undertaken alongside a desk study including a check for TPO’s (tree protection orders), tree felling covenants, and tree conservation areas to identify the protection level of trees within the site boundary and adjacent areas.

During our tree surveys and tree inspections we also assess the tree and habitat for the potential to support any protected species such as bat, breeding birds and red squirrel and can inform on and undertake specific tree climbing inspection surveys, bat surveys and bird surveys to assist projects and developments.

We undertake the majority of our tree surveys and tree inspections within the north east of England including; Northumberland, Tyne and Wear (Newcastle and Sunderland), Durham and Cumbria but do regularly travel countrywide.  If you wish to discuss a project or would like any further information, please get in touch using the below details.
